Our Farm!

Be Ingredients is a family owned farm business that focuses on providing quality foods, while building community around locally grown produce. Be Ingredients believes we are what we eat and the choices we make can have a positive impact on your feeling of well being, as well as the local environment.  Be Ingredients, Be the Ingredients of Life! Be Hoppy, Be Sweet, Be Nutty!

Be Ingredients farms in a permaculture style, using the natural topography, pond, streams and forests to create natural sections on the farm to cultivate 5 products: Barley, Hops, Apples, Hazelnuts and Honey.

Be Ingredients is growing 2-Row Malting Barley on 10 acres of the farm.  We refrain from the use of pesticides to promote and optimum environment for pollinators and our 50 honeybee colonies.  We teamed up with the BC Farm Museum and hold an annual Threshing Bee with our antique threshing machine.  We then malt the barley right here on the farm!

We focus on top quality ingredients and grow 4 varieties of hops: cascade, centennial, fuggle and zues.  Locality Brewing is located on the Farm that Be Ingredients is located and purchases the hops direct from Be Ingredients.  Thus Locality Brewing is able to get the hops straight off the vine for a fresh hops variety as well there is no shipping involved in the production of the beer.  Be Ingredients also sells their hops and barley to breweries in BC.

MacInnes Farms was an apple orchard before the MacInnes family purchased the farm in the 1980’s and started a dairy and feedlot business.  Since then the second generation on the farm (Be Ingredients) has decided to get back to the farms roots and plant 5 acres of heritage apple trees. Family and friends came together to graft to date 750 trees.

BC’s hazelnut industry experienced devastating loses because of the Eastern Filbert Blight (EFB).  Be Ingredients, is very fond of hazelnuts and decided to try and fill this gap by planting 6 acres of hazelnut trees.  They purchased blight resistant trees from Nature Tech in Langley and planted over 6 hundred trees last year.

Be Ingredients is crazy about pollinators and in partnership with The Honest Company is starting a pollinator conservation area that will help educated the public about the importance of all pollinators.  As well Be Ingredients is home to 50+ colonies of honey bees where we focus on overall honey bee health.

    Thank you,

    1. Hi Paula! Thank you for purchasing the honey! We do take email transfer, melanie@beingredients.com; but I am guessing this has already been taken care of. I didn’t realise I was getting comments on my website; it was a treat to find them.

  4. Hello, Melanie!
I sing in The Langley Community Choir with Sharon Morley-Muche and it is my friend Sharon that told me about your farm and your tv set for “When Calls the Heart.” I’m a big fan of that tv series. In the future, I am very interested in going on a tour of the set of “When Calls the Heart.” Could you please advise me as to where I might see a schedule of your tour dates and how I might get on your calendar for the tour itself?

lso, I love hazelnuts and am also interested in purchasing hazelnuts from your farm. Do you sell them in small quantities or just in large ones?

I’m hoping to hear back from you soon. Thank you very much!

    1. Hi Candice,
From what I’ve heard, tours for the wcth set start in the spring time (please verify this tho because I wouldn’t want to give you incorrect info) and the MacInnes family has requested Kerry McNeil (blogger for “I’veSeenItOnHallmark”) to be the tour guide. Kerry is on Facebook as well.

      Hope this information helps.
      #Hearties

    2. Hi Candice! I can’t wait to sell you hazelnuts, do you want to check in with me in October and see if enough grew so I can sell you a bag if them ;-).

  5. I was given information that I could arrange a set tour for the Series “When calls the Heart” through this site. My husband, sister-in-law and a close friend are visiting from the Columbus Ohio area on May 31th, 2019.
I would appreciate any information you could send me about arranging a tour on that day, if possible.
    Thanks so much.

Unfortunate or fortunately (if they are filming season 7!) we can’t hold tours during filming and in September WCTH is usually in full swing.
